Good running music

I don't know how many times I have been inspired to keep going during a run by the beat or lyrics of a song. Lately I've lost a little running mojo. It was supposed to easier than this - i just ran one LAST MONTH! But instead it has been hard. My knee has been giving me trouble and I'm not getting any faster. I felt extra pressure because I somehow became the boss of this and all of you are counting on me. And I'm going to come in last place. I know it doesn't matter but for some reason it was bringing me down. On Saturday's long run the song "the Middle" by Jimmy Eat World came on and the lyrics were like an answer to prayer: (orange italics added for emPHAsis)

Hey,
Don't write yourself off yet.
It's only in your head you feel left out,
Or looked down on.
Just try your best,
Try everything you can
.

And don't you worry what they tell themselves
When you're away.

[Chorus]
It just takes some time,
little girl, you're in the middle of the ride.
Everything, everything will be just fine,
Everything, everything will be alright. (alright)

Hey,
You know they're all the same.
You know you're doing better on your own, (on your own)
So don't buy in.
Live right now.
Yeah, just be yourself.
It doesn't matter if it's good enough (good enough)
For someone else.

It's true. We are in this to be the best we can be. Our only competition is ourselves. I have a very limited lung capacity due to my radiation and I need to be ok with being slow. If I beat my last half by 30 seconds - that's awesome - even if it's 30 minutes after all of you. This is good for us. We are strong. We can do hard things.

What is your favorite running song?

t-shirts!

Should we get some? What do we want them to say? Krista mentioned "Giddy Up!" and I like that. Any other ideas? do we want names on them? Colors? I'm kinda liking the blue and orange that the race has going on.

Tell me. Tell me.

So, I'm thinking training will start in January and I'll get a schedule made soon. I want to have a meeting for everyone sometime during the break so we can discuss plans and motivate each other, etc. I think whether you do the Nashville or Kentucky Derby, we can all still train and prepare together. I have a code to get $15 off Nashville by Dec 31 if anyone wants it. Nashville is $85 through dec 31 and $105 after that. (Yikes!) KY is $50 thru Jan 31, $60 after that. I think we had better register early for both because they do fill up. Especially KY since it is a smaller race. (Why is it called a mini? I hate that.)

Accommodations: I'll start looking on the civilian realm. Is there is a military friend who wants to check out military options for Kentucky? We could bring those ideas to the meeting and think about what we want to do. A big cabin or condo or three might be fun.

Kids marathon: The page that I originally went to is gone and I can't find info on this anymore. Maybe they cancelled it? Nashville is still doing one, I think. I'd still like to have my kids do the training with us and maybe we can come up wth some sort of medal ceremony or something. I'm bummed about that. I'll keep looking for more info. They are having a Balloon glow the night before and the pasta pre-race dinner/concert is only $9 for adults and $6 for kids. We should do that. It'll be easier than trying to find somewhere. That's CHEAP. Other marathon buffets are $30/person.

Other fun things: Live horse racing at Churchill downs after the race. I'd like to see that.

Walkers: Deor, Amy, Mami, Jennifer, Melanie - they do recommend a 15:00 pace for KY. So you will have to train. But it's doable. 4mi/hr = It's about 3hr17min finish. It's a hefty pace but you guys can do it.

Let me know your thoughts and when you might be available for a short meeting with treats.

OK- SO it's really time to sign up. I had a scare this morning after signing only myself up, I went back in and tried to sign jaymeson and it said the race was full. I tried again and still the race was full. I freaked out and called the race and spoke with the chair and he said it's a glitch in the system. SO, after you signup one person, close your web browser and open it again before signing someone else up. He said it will sell out in the next week or two - so get on it.

Also, i signed up my family for the pasta dinner. I can't believe it's that cheap. THese are usually like $35. This one is put on by the sponsor "wal*mart" whom I have never heard of. It sounds pretty gourmet. THat sign up is in the registration. Do it Do IT.

Welcome Halfletes!

I set up this blog so we can keep all plans and ideas and tips all in one place. Also, I like to set up blogs and then ignore them so I can feel all guilty-like. Lemme know if you want to be an author on the blog, too, and I'll set that up.
